When a new virus, such as H5N1, infects a person with a strong immune system, 
the system "goes into overdrive" so wildly trying to defend itself as to cause 
a fatal cytokine storm.  Statins (taken before or soon after infection) may 
calm the storm, enabling the person to survive.
