#1 UU EcoMinds celebrates prevention of over 517 tons of co2!

By Madalyn's rough calculations (which don't yet include most of the
area
UU Earth Day Programs) in our first 2 years, UU EcoMinds promotion
of WindSource and CFLs has prevented about 517 tons of CO2.
That OVER 1 million pounds!

Give yourselves a pat on the back! And if your congregation sold more
CFLs or
signed more folks up for WindSource for Earth Day 2006, let me know so
I can include those numbers in the tally.

Well done friends!

#2 May 6-7: Help staff the C3 booth at Living Green Expo this weekend

Congregations Caring for Creation (C3) still needs volunteers to
staff their table this weekend at the Living Green Expo.
Call Sean Gosiewzki at 612-331-1099 (work) or 612-385-0030 (cell)
to set up a shift ahead of time, or drop by the booth while you're at
the Expo and see if your help is needed. This is a great chance
to talk to people about what action UUs and other religious groups
are taking to halt global warming.
The booth will be in Aisle H, behind the kids activities.

#3 1033May 6-7: Living Green Expo: THIS Sat & Sun 10am-5pm, State Fair

May 6-7, 2006 10 a.m. - 5 p.m
MN State Fair grounds

This event has been getting better and better every year.
It's now considered one of the best showcases for sustainable
living in the nation. It runs this weekend Sat and Sun at the
State Fairgrounds, and it's free.

#4 RES Update
Could be voted on in Senate today.

In the Senate: RES has been almost but not quite making it
to the Senate floor for a vote over the last several weeks.
It is possible that the RES would be voted on today (May 4).

In the House: The House passed a mercury bill last week. There
had been some speculation that the RES would be amended to
that bill, but it was not. The committee that would hear the RES
is no finished meeting for this session, so to be passed this
year in the house, the RES would have to be amended to another bill.

#5 Green Affordable Housing: UU EcoMinds partner opportunity with UU
Affordable Housing Partnership

The UUAHP (UU Affordable Housing Partnership) is interested in working
with UU EcoMinds
to help affordable housing in the metro area be built more sustainably,
or to help
affordable housing residents conserve energy when they move into
affordable housing.

The possibilities are wide open right now: Maybe we can help Habitat for
Humanity
build greener houses, or help offset the costs of purchasing energystar
appliances for new affordable housing, or provide coupons for CFLs???

UUAHP may have some funds for the right project.
If you are interested in forming a task force to work
with some UUAHP folks on this, contact
Madalyn 612-926-5249 or mcioci [at] earthlink.net OR

#6 What's Next for UU EcoMinds?

Very soon, UU EcoMinds leadership team will begin planning for summer
and next year. If you have ideas for action or education campaigns,
please
contact one of the leadership team members. And if you'd like to take a
leader-
ship role, please step up! We'll let you know when the next meeting is
set.

Will we work to bring global warming to the forefront during the
election season?
Will we continue work on RES or another policy endeavor?
Will we bring more in-depth education to the community?
Will we work on including more UUs from around the state?
Will we deepen our relationship with C3 or other organizations?
