Subject: [sa-talk] Your VOTE needed: VERY IMPORTANT: Cindy Sheehan
Importance: High

We need a VOTE on this by Sunday or Monday at latest. I am willing to
put up $100. Would SAC consider matching that amount for the Cindy
Sheehan event? The money upfront represents a guarantee and would be
returned to us if the proceeds are sufficient. And, I believe we would
be listed as sponsors.

Thanks for considering this.

Peace,
Madeline

Please take the time to read and respond to this, hopefully
no later than next Monday:

The first committee meeting regarding Cindy Sheehan's
appearance here January 30 is next Tuesday. If you are interested in
volunteering to help with this major event, please contact me or Marie
Braun braun044 [at] umn.edu<mailto:braun044 [at] umn.edu>.

The Executive Committee met Tuesday, and a major concern was
raised which really requires not only your feedback, but your
assistance.

            To summarize:

The June 11, 2006, Delegate Council approved with a single
dissenting vote inviting Cindy Sheehan to speak in Minneapolis. The
speaker fee, then, was $7500.

The August 8, 2006, Delegate Council re-addressed and
re-affirmed the proposal. "Maria Braun explained the cost has been
lowered to $3500. Joan of Arc has offered free facilities. Need 3-4
groups that are enthusiastic about having her come here. Need to sign a
contract and have a committee for planning. Dick Bernard, Leslie
Reindl, Marie Braun, Mary White and Randall Tigue volunteered to be on
the committee."

At both meetings there was the usual attendance of about 40
delegates. The rules of MAP are that the Delegates make the policy of
MAP, and those in attendance at the meetings are the ones who can make
decisions. The Executive Committee can only recommend and implement
actions. In this case, the Executive Committee is nervous about
committing to spend money MAP does not have. All will likely turn out
well, but we can't go on possibilities.

We now have the contract in hand, but except for those
listed below, we have inadequate commitments from any individuals or MAP
organizations to cover the costs of this event in the event revenue is
less than expenses.

When we sign the contract (we haven't, yet), we are
obligated for the costs. I want to have the necessary financial
commitments by Tuesday.

We need your specific and firm commitments, and we need them soon.
Suggestion: $100 minimum for organization exhibit table; $75
Organizational Support; your amount: individual support.

One can assume that we will easily cover costs on January
30, but assumptions like this are always risky.

MAP's most recent bank balance (Sep 11, 2006) is $2,740.
Twelve member organizations are still in arrears on their $50 dues, some
for more than one year. We have no benefactors as we did last year,
when Joan of Arc provided us with a $1000 grant to augment our treasury.

We need your personal and/or organizational financial
commitment before we go forward.

I am copying the Executive Committee on this, should you
wish to 'reply all', about this.
