I'd like to go on the bus tour. I can't make the meetings this year. I already get action alerts from the Peace Foundation.

Hi, all - Re: a couple of items that came up in our SAC meeting, about our goal to
work on racial justice & economic opportunity, with a focus on the
Northside (since FUS is a near neighbor of the Nside). We have some new
opportunities to shift into a little higher gear on this, because PEACE
Foundation has some new funding, staff, focus, and strategy - and they
are on the move! - Jo

1. See note from Kendyl, below; - how many SAC folks are interested in
going together on April 28th for a tour of the Northside? From PEACE
Foundation information: "Northside Community Tours - driving tour
focusing on the assets and challenges in North Minneapolis, led by
Council Member Don Samuels." I plan to go.

2. At the SAC meeting, info was handed out re: a recent monthly PEACE
Foundation meeting. They are holding monthly meetings, called Movement
Forums: "monthly relationship-building and strategic planning sessions
for Northside leaders and geographic ally group leadership". (the word
"leader" here should not intimidate anyone, they mean people who are
willing to make a level of commitment, take a level of responsibility, in
addressing issues in the community, along with others who are similarly
motivated. Kendyl and several SAC members have already done so, for some
time, and we have a chance to take our FUS-Northside relationships & work
to a new level and join with this very exciting organizing effort...)

The PEACE Foundation has identified key issues and events for 2007, and
they are asking for allies who will join the strategy discussions and
activism. They are working on policy reform during the legislative
session - see info at www.citypeace.org.

They have a program of signing up blocks of people - from congregations
and other groups - to receive email action alerts as a group, so people
can work together as a sort of affinity group - people who are already in
relationship with one another, and could work together to help make
things happen. This is something SAC folks and others from FUS who may
be interested, might consider doing.

The next PEACE Foundation monthly Movement Forum meeting is the evening
of February 22nd. This will be more a cultural celebration than a
meeting - for Black History Month - to be held at Central High
School, Green Gym/Auditorium (corner of 35th Street & 4th Avenue South).
I'm planning to go - let me know if you are interested.

Also at the SAC meeting on Sunday, there was discussion about SAC & other
interested FUS folks gathering for some reflection in between PEACE
Foundation meetings. This would be a way to discuss things like - what
does it mean to be an ally? Should we start with reflecting some on the
issue of humility - (since we are a mostly white congregation with people
from all over the metro area - including the Nside - wanting to take
more steps toward partnership on the issues facing African Americans,
lower-income folks, and others living on the Northside....).

Dear Jo,

I heard back from Michelle Martin at the Peace Foundation about the
Northside tour. She says they can take up to 15 of us on the April 28
tour. My thought is that if we have more than that who want to go, we
can look ahead to the May trip as well. Can we get this out to the SA
list now, so people begin to save the date on their calendars? I really
think it will be a great experience to have together.

Thanks,
Kendyl
