WHAT IS YOUR VOTE? I vote yes. - Jo Please Forward. ------------------------------ 11/19/08 TO: Human Rights and Social Justice Advocates FROM: M. Jay Shahidi SUBJECT: Family Planning in the Age of Economic Crisis Dear Advocate: Please join us in this imperative national campaign: At a time of economic down-turn, increasing poverty and global pessimism about the future, it is vital to pay serious attention to the problem of rapid population growth which is, indeed, the core cause of scarcity of resources and intensifying hardship for most inhabitants of this planet. "Family Planning in the Age of Economic Crisis" is a conference being organized by the Washington-DC based Population Connection (formerly called Zero Population Growth) and the United Nations Association, Minnesota Division. The purpose is to focus attention on the critical need for all nations to multiply their efforts to promote voluntary family planning in order to improve the quality of life for all the inhabitants of our world. Our goal is to launch a national campaign to bring about public support and governmental action that will ultimately produce an international impact. We need your help to organize, co-sponsor and publicize this kick-off event in Minneapolis on December 11, 2008, 6-9 p.m. The location of the event will be announced shortly. The urgency lies in the fact that we must join forces to urge President Obama and the new Congress to: 1. Remove the odious "Global Gag Rule" which was re-established by President Bush by Executive Action (his first official act after he became President on January 20, 2001) which has withheld U.S. funds from the family planning non-governmental organization, NGOs, around the world resulting in drastically increased numbers of unwanted pregnancies and abortions. 2. Increase the U.S. contributions to the international family planning efforts to $1,000,000,000.00 from the current approximately $460,000,000.00, much of which has not been released by President Bush. 3. Explore ways to re-establish the leadership of the United States in the collective movement to stabilize the world population and attempt to bring about a sustainable international society. Please try to organize local events in the U.S. to support this campaign. Please contact us to be a co-sponsor. ____________________________________________________________ Domain Registration - Click Here http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL2141/fc/PnY6rw2XOf9PP1mcqw1txw7tMnvl 8dim5uhhNO2I24B9Qo06XeUhY/ __________________________________________________________________ First Unitarian Society Social Action TALK To unsubscribe, update address, see archives of message, or subscribe, go to: http://muusja.org/FUSsa No virus found in this incoming message.
