I went to the Bloomington mtg. last night. About 30 legislators were there and about 400 in the audience with 127 signed up to speak. I was one of them and luckily, I was near the top of the list, speaking for preserving the investment the state has made in early childhood care and education, not cutting the Child Care Assistance Program, etc. We each had 1 1/2 minutes. ----- Original Message ----- From: <jojane [at] juno.com>

Hello Jo Haberman!

Legislative budget hearings around the state are drawing incredible
numbers and faithful citizens are playing a vital role. In Rochester,
over 300 people turned out, many of them wearing INVEST IN MINNESOTA
stickers. In Worthington, the meeting room turned out to be much too
small for the number of people waiting to speak and in Albert Lea,
Duluth, and Winona powerful testifiers linked personal stories to the
consequences of state budget reductions. People are no longer willing
to sit idly by and watch the safety net shredded, people thrown off
health insurance, and child care and medical services decimated.

This coming week the budget hearings move to the metro area with
meetings in Bloomington, Burnsville, Coon Rapids, Forest Lake,
Minneapolis, Plymouth, St. Paul, White Bear Lake, and Woodbury. We
urge you to show up and speak up! Use our issue briefings

for the hearings.

The final report

pdf>
of the Legislative Commission to End Poverty in Minnesota by 2020 is
now available. The Commission at its last meeting unanimously approved
the report and released it for distribution. JRLC thanks the
Commission and its director, Mr. Gregory Gray for a great piece of
public engagement and policy analysis. Bills are now being drafted to
make the recommendations a reality. Stay tuned for updates on this
legislation.

Earlier this month at JRLCs Day on the Hill, Dr. Ingrid Mattson,
president of the Islamic Society of North America, began her keynote
speech by congratulating JRLCs 850 participants, You have an
amazing record, not only of coming together, but of successfully
advocating for just and fair policies. Her remarks about obstacles
to justice, especially greed and unconsciousness, are very
provocative. If you werent at Day on the Hill (or just want to see
it again), weve posted Dr. Mattson's text and a YouTube version
