Subject: IMPORTANT YMF Update

Greetings Youth Moving Forward (YMF) Supporters!

authors!
b.. Youth Day & Rally at the Capitol is March 5
c.. YMF is advancing - an update on hearings

YMF Concept Bill - this legislative proposal includes the whole YMF agenda
(attached again) including Ready to Launch and $8 million for the Runaway and
Homeless Youth Act. The bill is being presented as a large concept bill so we
can secure a joint hearing and educate a wider array of legislators on these
important issues.

** Chief author in the House is Rep. Rosenthal - new legislator from the Edina
area with great passion for these issues. TAKE ACTION -- Please contact your
House members and ask them to sign onto the bill. Members are welcome to sign
onto the bill from now until early Wednesday. If you hear back from your
Representative that they would like to be on the bill, please share that
information with Kirsten at kanderso [at] lssmn.org or 651.308.7765.

** Our Senate authors include chief author Sen. Dibble and co-authors Sen. M
Olson, Sen. Tomassoni, Sen. Cohen and Sen. Moua authorship on the Senate side
is limited to 5 authors. TAKE ACTION -- Please thank these Senators when you
have an opportunity to do so.

Youth Day & Rally at the Capitol - March 5 - Join with dozens of organizations
and hundreds of youth participants rallying around homelessness, mentoring,
out-of-school time, workforce development and youth intervention to tell the
State of Minnesota that investing in Minnesota youth IS part of the solution!

MN State Capitol Rotunda
March 5, 2009
12:30-1:15 p.m.

The Rally for Youth Day at the Capitol was created so that hundreds of
participants from dozens of youth service organizations throughout MN could
come together to rally behind common issues:

      Homelessness
      Mentoring
      Out-of-School Time
      Workforce Development
      Youth Intervention

Youth services do not exist or work in an exclusive, solitary environment
to meet the needs of young people. We must engage communities and enact
policies which promote a comprehensive approach to youth policy. On March 5, we
will celebrate the successes of these young people, who have benefited from
multiple programs and services available to support them. They are sharing
their stories so that the State of Minnesota will hear our message:

Investing in Minnesota Youth IS part of the solution!

*This is part of the day-long activities for the Rally for Youth Day at
the Capitol. The Rally is open to the public and we encourage all to show your
support! If your organization wishes to participate in the full-day's
activities or for more information, please contact jstrinmoen [at] mnyipa.org,
Promisefellow [at] Mentoringworks.org or (888) 945-YIPA.

YMF Hearing Successes! - The needs of homeless youth statewide were
identified as issues in front of the Senate Health and Human Service Finance
committee with testifiers from John Moline of Duluth, Tim Reardon of
Minneapolis and a very powerful youth testifier - Yuleski Betharte. Ready to
Launch policy proposals were heard in Senate and House policy committees - both
passed with flying colors, especially after David Anderson, a youth from
Northern Minnesota, inspired Senator Marty's committee with his testimony.

The successes YMF legislative proposals have with legislators is due to
your ongoing community engagement, organizing and direct conversations with
legislators. Together we are stimulating exciting action in the 2009 session.

Tools you can use! Postcards! Stickers! Event in A Box! - Please contact
Kirsten to receive postcards or stickers - and Merci Rocha at m.rocha [at]
bridgeforyouth.org for more information and your own Event in A Box. These
fantastic tools are wonderful for use with youth, board members, community
supporters, donors, and others. Please be certain that you sign up every person
who sends a postcard in to their legislators (sign up sheet attached) - 2009 is
an important movement building year, and we must seek to retain all available
supporters!

Next meeting - March 16, 10-12 at LSS (2485 Como Ave, 55108), all are welcome,
conference call will be available

Thank you all for your great work - please stay tuned as other opportunities to
take action will emerge rapidly over the remaining few months of the
legislative session.

Warmly,

Kirsten
