Subject: TODAY IS THE DAY - simple, direct, action for homeless youth!

Greetings YMF Advocates,

Thanks to your tireless and effective advocacy, proposals for the Runaway and
Homeless Youth Act and medical coverage for youth aging out of care continue to
be held in the negotiations for the Health and Human Service conference
committee. The committee is under great pressure and needs more than ever to
hear from advocates on top prioritiy items.

The committee intends to wrap up negotiation today and need to hear about the
importance of homeless youth funding!

Please take action: simple, direct, needed today!

* Call and e-mail the conferees (info below) closest to your program area, and

* Call and e-mail your legislators (info at
http://www.gis.leg.mn/mapserver/districts/)

ASK THEM TO PLEASE:

* do all they can to preserve the House funding for the Runaway and Homeless
Youth Act and

* support the Senate proposal to include youth aging out of care in Minnesota
Care

Background

The $238,000 proposed for the Runaway and Homeless Youth Act by the House will
provide crucial funding for: outreach, drop-in and shelter services --
essential first-line services that federal stimulus supports are not able to
fund. The Runaway and Homeless Youth Act is intended to provide direct funding
to youth service providers statewide to fund the continuum of care including:
outreach, shelter, drop-in and transitional living programs. If you are
interested in additional background please contact Kirsten at this e-mail
address or at 651.308.7765.
