a.. Fax your Representative before tomorrow's immigration summit!
            UUA Immigration News
Obama to hold immigration summit tomorrow; fax your representative
now!

            Dear UU Immigrant Justice Advocate,

Tomorrow, President Obama will take a major step towards fulfilling
his promise to reform our broken immigration system by hosting Congressional
leaders at the White House for a working session on immigration reform. Please
take a few minutes to customize and send a fax to your Representative saying
that you expect Congress to commit to real action this year.

We know we already asked you to send a fax a couple of weeks ago.
But campaigns like this succeed or fail by volume and repetition. We have to
keep telling Congress and the White House that we expect them to find workable
solutions that are consistent with our values and move us forward together --
and we expect them to do it this year.

There is no question: You are being heard loud and clear in
Washington. Since the Campaign to Reform Immigration for America, of which the
UUA is a part, launched in June, supporters have sent almost 200,000 faxes to
Congress, and made well over 30,000 phone calls to Congressional leaders and
the White House. Last week, interfaith groups aligned with the Campaign held 53
prayer vigils in 18 states. In D.C., Unitarian Universalist minister Rev. Nancy
McDonald Ladd spoke powerfully at an interfaith press conferece.

Two days later, the New York Times published an editorial entitled:
"Immigration: It's Time". And a day after that, President Obama recommitted to
"passing comprehensive immgiration reform" at the National Hispanic Prayer
Breakfast. Tomorrow, he will be holding a high-level planning meeting with top
Congressional leaders to discuss how to move forward.

Thanks in no small part to your efforts, things are moving in the
right direction. But the meeting on Thursday is just the beginning, and as
events progress, we can leave no doubt in the minds of Congressional leaders
that the American people want solutions, not just talk.

Hundreds of UUs have been contacting Congress in support of
immigration reform over the past few months, and this week thousands of
Unitarian Universalists attending General Assembly in Salt Lake City will be
signing pledges to stand with immigrant families as part of the UUA's new
Standing on the Side of Love campaign. Please add your voice to the movement
for immigrant justice and send a free fax to your representative now.

Thank you, so very much, for your ongoing support for immigrant
justice: Your voice truly makes a difference.

            In faith,

            Lisa Swanson
