Hello, UU friends! 
 

On Monday, September 14th, 7 - 9pm, at Unity Church-Unitarian (732 Holly 
Avenue, St. Paul), UUs who want to work together for marriage equality for 
same-gender couples in Minnesota will meet  -  and we hope you will be there! 
September 14th will be the first post-summer meeting of UUs Out For Marriage 
(UUO4M), a working group of the Minnesota UU Social Justice Alliance 
(www.muusja.org).

 

UUO4M started in 2006, when UUs around the state organized against - and 
successfully helped to STOP - a constitutional ban on same-gender marriage in 
Minnesota.    Many of you were actively involved....and we thank you for your 
good work!

 

Now, we need your help again - to work pro-actively FOR marriage equality.  
(...which is why we named the group UUs Out For Marriage back in 2006 - not UUs 
Opposed to Constitutional Amendments That Ban Same-Gender Marriage.... we knew 
in 2006 that we wanted to work FOR what we believe in....not just against a bad 
and discriminatory policy....)

 

UUO4M is partnering once again with OutFront Minnesota (state-wide GLBT 
equality organization www.outfront.org) - and just sent all UU congregations a 
marriage equality kit, with a request for CLERGY and CONGREGATION sign-on, as 
well as individual sign-on for the marriage equality campaign.  

 

It will probably take 3-5 years to achieve marriage equality in Minnesota - if 
we are going to win, we need ALL UU congregations and clergy in our state to 
help pull  toward equality!  YOUR HELP IS NEEDED TO ORGANIZE THE EFFORT!

 

October 11th is National Coming Out Day - a Sunday this year - it will be a 
good day for UU congregations to Come Out For Marriage Equality on Coming Out 
Day!  We can help encourage our congregations to plan a service or adult 
education program....  and begin scheduling Community Action Trainings on 
Marriage Equality.

 

AND - prior to October 11th, on Thursday, October 8th,  there will be a media 
event at the state capitol (...educating the public on marriage equality 
requires visibility in the media...) - some UU clergy will speak, along with 
other interfaith leaders. It will be an exciting moment, and we want plenty of 
UUs there!  

 

We will talk about these and other strategies on September 14th - and get 
reacquainted with old friends and new - so come on out to Unity Church in St. 
Paul, and prepare to Come Out For Marriage!
