Action Alert from the UUA Washington Office for Advocacy 
Act NOW to Pass Hate Crimes Legislation
Thank you to those who have contacted Congress. If you haven't, please
Call AND write your members of Congress by September 15th, and ask them
to pass Hate Crimes legislation in the final Department of Defense
spending bill.
As many of you know, the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Protection Act
passed the Senate as part of the Department of Defense (DOD) spending
bill. In the next few weeks, a conference committee will decide whether
and in what form to include the Hate Crimes language on the final DOD
bill.
The Conference Committee for this bill will be drawn from members of the
Armed Services Committees in both houses. Therefore, if your
Representative or Senator is on the Armed Services Committee (see list
below), your voice is particularly important!
After you enter your zip code on the action page, please use the phone
number displayed to call your Armed Services Committee member and ask
them to keep hate crimes in the Department of Defense bill without
harmful amendments. You can use our script below or personalize it to
make it your own.
Once you take action, please pass this message on to your friends. We
need to keep the pressure on to show our elected officials that we must
protect ALL of our neighbors from violent hate crimes. Make your call to
