Two important books have now been published, and the University of Minnesota has posted them in online and downloadable pdf format. The key person in this process is humanist activist Matt Stark, who was Executive Director of the Minnesota Civil Liberties Union in 1970 when an American first occurred.

Student of this large public university elected Jack Baker as an openly gay student body president. This event, following Stonewall the year before, and subsequent lawsuit to obtain marriage license for Baker and his partner, began the still-continuing struggle to achieve marriage equality. In 1981, the Minnesota Gay and Lesbian Legal Assistance was founded.

The Quatrefoil Library, where the documents for these important studies are housed, is the largest of three US collections of GLBTQ materials. These first two volumes are published by the Friends of the Bill of Rights Foundation.

The two books can be found at

These events so clearly illustrate the promotion and implementation of humanist values that they deserve wide distribution, reading, and discussion.
