CINDY SHEEHAN: ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Cindy Sheehan gained fame
in the summer of 2005, when she started a vigil outside President George W.
Bush's home in Crawford, Texas, asking the President to tell her for what
noble cause her son Casey had died. Sheehan attracted major media coverage
and sparked nationwide discussion over her role and the continuing war on
Iraq, adding energy and impetus to the existing anti-war movement. Sheehan
is co-founder of Gold Star Families for Peace and the author of "Peace Mom."
The event will be preceded by a social hour (in the Hospitality Hall) at
6:30pm. She will be available to sign books following the event. Organized
by Minnesota Alliance of Peacemakers.

FIRST UNITARIAN SOCIETY
SPECIAL ADULT EDUCATION FORUM: IS PEACEMAKING REALLY CONNECTED TO GLOBAL
WARMING?

Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer, Justice and Peace Studies professor at St. Thomas
University, has some very interesting ideas about how Peacemaking is
connected to Global Warming, among other things. UUs chose Peacemaking as
our new four-year Study-Action Issue at General Assembly last summer - and
Jack has kindly agreed to help us begin to explore what that could mean!
Plan to c'mon back Thursday, February 8th, 7-8:30pm, at FUS, for a follow-up
discussion among UUs who want to join together for both study AND action!

B. NATIONAL UU ADVOCACY

1.
SAT, JAN 27
WASHINGTON DC
Momentum is building for the January 27th mobilization. Every day we are
hearing from more folks around the nation who are hard at work organizing
people for the trip to DC. Below are some recommendations and logistics that
will hopefully make your organizing easier.

An interfaith service, organized by the Network of Spiritual Progressives,
will take place the morning of the 27th from 9:00-10:30 at the Church of the
Reformation (212 E. Capitol St. - Directly behind the capitol). Rev. Louise
Green of All Souls Unitarian Washington DC will be participating.

NEW MEETING PLACE: Unitarian Universalists will be gathering at 11am at 3rd
and Madison (at the far east end of the Mall). Bring signs that identify you
as a UU - we will have UUs for Peace stickers with Chalice Peace Signs!

Find out about buses coming from your cities and towns - and list
transportation plans you are making - on the UFPJ web site here:
http://www.unitedforpeace.org/ride.php.

Think of staying in Washington, DC for the Congressional Lobby Day on
Monday, Jan. 29th. There will be doing a lobby training session on Sunday,
Jan. 28th and then are hoping to flood the offices of the members of
Congress on Monday so our elected officials hear directly from their
constituents. More information about the lobby day can be found on the UFPJ
website here: http://www.unitedforpeace.org/modinput4.php?modin=121.

Can't make the March? Here's what you can do: See Resources, Letters to the

MARCH 22 THROUGH 24
NEW YORK CITY
FACING RACE 2007: DEFINE JUSTICE, MAKE CHANGE APPLIED RESEARCH CENTER(ARC)

>From the rebuilding of the Gulf Coast to the creation of a new
>immigration
system, questions of racial justice dominate debates in academia, government
and the media this year and into the future. With our conference, we hope to
unite our movement by building bridges across issues and communities to
amplify the concerns of communities of color in the intellectual, policy and
popular debates that lie ahead.

Gary Delgado, founder of ARC, resigned as its executive director after 16
years, but still serves as a consultant - he worked with about 25 local UUs
last year, in a racial justice workshop sponsored by MUUSJA. ARC is
considered one of the most effective racial justice organizations in the
country. - Jo Haberman
