The World Health Organization has now documented some human-to-human
transmission of the H5N1 strain of influenza A.

If this outbreak in Pakistan had gone unchecked, it would probably have been
the beginning of a pandemic.
This is likely to happen again and again as the H5N1 reassorts with other
influenza A strains in its host (pig, human, ...)
If the public health authorities are not alerted in time or not empowered
enough to check it each time, as I seen it, the pandemic begins.
