UN CLIMATE CONFERENCE: Local Rally & Information

#1 Sat. Dec. 3, noon: RALLY! Global March for the Climate: Twin Cities
protest
Governor's Residence
1006 Summit Ave., St. Paul
(Try to carpool or bus!)

Okay UU's, here's a no-brainer. We should be out in huge numbers this
Saturday
telling Gov. Pawlenty that climate change must be halted now, and demand
his
leadership. Join us in demanding that the U.S. join the world in
addressing global warming.
This protest will coincide with the Montreal climate change conference,
where
world leaders will meet about global efforts to fight climate change.
Decisions made at this conference will have a major impact on our future

and on our children's future.

This protest will also coincide with similar actions throughout the
country,
including Boston, LA, Columbus OH, Harrisburg PA, New Orleans, New York
City,
Portland ME, Seattle, Tucson, Washington DC, and other places.
We will tell Governor Pawlenty to do more to reduce Minnesota's
emissions
of greenhouse gases and to urge Pres. Bush to join the world at the
Montreal
conference and help solve the climate change problem.

The demands:
        * Join the World by joining the Kyoto Protocol
        * Mandatory Reductions in Greenhouse Gas Emissions
        * Clean, Safe, Non-Nuclear Energy Alternatives
        * No More Wars for Oil

#2 Nov. 29- December 9: Follow news of UN Climate Change Conference in
Montreal

Over 150 states and nearly 10,000 delegates are taking part in the
largest
international meeting about global climate change since Kyoto in 1997.
The US government continues to resist involvement and action. ME3 is
there
participating. Keep track of what's happening.

Google "UN Climate Change Conference" or find out more at

#3 UU ministers sign letter to UN Climate Change Conference

Revs. Laurie Bushbaum (Michael Servetes), Kendyl Gibbons (FUS),
Mary Samuels (MVUUF) and Kate Tucker (First Universalist) were among
the interfaith group of signers of a letter sent to national leaders at
the UN Climate Change Conference in Montreal.
Thanks and appreciation to them (and any other UU minister signers who I
may
not have listed here).

CONSERVATION:

#4 Dec 9-12: Rev. Billy and the Stop Shopping Gospel Choir hit Twin
Cities and NEED HOSTS

Fun street theater group delivers message that American consumption is
out of hand.
Highlighted on CNN this past Black Friday.
Overconsumption adds needlessly to CO2 emissions.

Hosts needed December 9 - 12
Performances Sat. Dec 10 and Sun. Dec. 11

"Reverend Billy and The Stop Shopping Gospel Choir (www.revbilly.com) is
a diverse group of community activists with an 8-yr history of
performance in the US and
Europe. We are planning a cross-country stop shopping pilgrimage during
the Christmas season. Our work is joyous but contains an urgent message:

American consumption is out of control. We address this problem
creatively and
compassionately, through performance, polemic and grassroots organizing.

We are in need of overnight housing as we make our journey west.
We are 25 singers, 5 musicians, 2 directors, 1 preacher, and a small
documentary
camera crew. The cost of housing a company of this size in motels and
hotels is prohibitive. But it's not just the money; we also think there
is a
great deal to gain from interacting with people inside their homes
and communities as we travel.

We will be in the Twin Cities from Fri night, Dec 9, to Mon morning, Dec
12.
If members of your congregation would be willing to house between 2 and
30
members of our company during our stay please ask them to email or call
me,
Madeline Nelson at madeline.nelson [at] verizon.net, 212-414-1403 or
917-538-7505.

Please visit our website to learn more about us. Also, Rev. John Gibbons
of
First U Parish in Bedford, MA, has kindly agreed to serve as a
reference.
We performed at his church in September 2005 as a benefit for the
Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, and all concerned agree it was
a great success.
Contact John at jgibbons [at] uubedford.org or by phone at 781-275-7994.
