#1 UU EcoMinds Meeting Jan 19 (originally posted as Jan 12)

A Meeting of the UU EcoMinds
THURSDAY, JAN 19, 2006
7:00 -- 9:00 pm
White Bear Lake UU Church
328 Maple Street
Mahtomedi, MN

It is a new year. Get RENEWED at our January 19 meeting, where you can

1) HELP PASS THE RENEWABLE ENERGY STANDARD:
Hear briefly about the current status and importance of the
Renewable Energy Standard from Rep. Bev Scalze (invited).
Help organize or sign up for door knocking events (Feb 11, Feb 25, & Mar
11)
to educate and advocate for RES in key legislative precincts, or get
petitions and sample letters to tack back to your congregation.
The momentum is building and we can help this important legislation
pass!

2) INFLUENCE UUA STANCE ON GLOBAL WARMING
Find out how you and your congregation can respond to the UUA
Study Action Issue on Global Warming. Our responses will help
define the UU denominational stance on global warming, what should
be done about it, and what, if any, national UU resources might
be dedicated to the cause.
We'll have materials and ideas you can take back to your
congregation and would love to hear your ideas.

3) GET TOOLS TO LAUNCH A CONGREGATION-BASED EMISSIONS-REDUCTION EFFORT
Switching to compact fluorescent light bulbs and purchasing
"green energy" (wind generated electricity) are two easy ways people
can make a huge reduction in their CO2 emissions.
See sample table displays, find out more about green-energy programs,
and get the materials you need to start a campaign, or to sign up
yourself!

#2 Feb 11 & 25, Mar 11: SAVE THESE DATES for RES Doorknocking in key
precincts

UU EcoMinds are on the move. Mark your calendar now!
***Sat. Feb. 11
***Sat. Feb 25
***Sat. Mar 11
(times and meeting locations TBA)

People who know about the Renewable Energy Standard,
WANT the Renewable Energy Standard.
Our job is to help more people know about it!

As part of our campaign for passage of the RES, UU EcoMinds has worked
with
ME3 and Clean Water Action to develop 3 days of very important
and still low-key, friendly doorknocking in key precincts in Minnetonka
and White Bear Lake.

We'll have quick training before each day, provide all the materials you
need,
and send you out with a partner. No prior experience needed, just a
willingness to
talk to fellow Minnesotans about issues you care about.

We'll be inviting Clean Water Action and Congregations Caring
for Creation (C3) members to join us.

Why February? Because the legislative session begins March 1.
Fighting global warming takes a little commitment, and a warm coat!
