#1 Sunday, Feb 19, 6pm 60 Minutes: Dire Predictions On Global Warming

Rising ocean temperatures have increased the intensity of hurricanes
like the
one that decimated New Orleans, says a scientist in a 60 Minutes report
on global warming. Bob Corell, one of the world's foremost authorities
on
climate change, talks to Scott Pelley this Sunday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m.
Central time.

Corell is interviewed in Greenland above the Arctic Circle, where the
rising
temperature has caused glacial ice that's been in place for eons to
recede
steadily for the last few decades.

"This is bellwhether, a barometer . the warning that things are coming,"
says Corell, who also predicts lowlands will be inundated by waters
from
the melting glaciers in the future. "In 10 years here in the arctic, we
see
what the rest of the planet will see in 25 or 35 years from now," he
says.
"The entire planet is out of balance."

#2 RES Doorknocking: They love us! 180 postcards in 2 hours! Sign up
for the next outing!

Feb 25, March 4 & March 11
9:00am - 1:00pm
MN Valley UU Fellowship

Day one of doorknocking for the Renewable Electricity Standard was a
great success.
Twelve volunteers, from 5 different UU congregations knocked on doors
in
Edina and within two hours collected 180, signed postcards to send to
our
elected officials asking them to support the RES!

We have three more doorknocking events planned and the more volunteers
are needed.

This activity proved to be easy yet rewarding work. Over 90% of the
people
we talked to signed postcards. Once homeowners realized that we were
not
asking for money or pushing a political candidate many were eager to
talk
about the issue, in fact many thanked us for doing this!
Training, handout materials (and moral support for those new to
doorknocking) provided.

Warming.
UU's are poised to join the religious voices raised to halt this
problem.
The current draft Statement of Conscience calls for more nuclear energy.

Do you agree? Disagree? Why?
Find out how you can respond to the UUA
