Hello UU EcoMinds! Many of us are busy preparing for Earth Day events at our congregations, but wanted to let you know the following: 1) Today the Minnesota Senate is scheduled to vote on the RES. 2) Event news from C3 - Details on listed events available at www.c3mn.net 3) Renewable Energy: Here. Now. You. April 20 4) WCCO, Channel 4, 10pm news, 5-part series on energy THIS WEEK ====================== ====================== 1) Today the Minnesota Senate is scheduled to vote on the RES. I don't believe that any action was taken last week in the House of Representatives on the RES after all our hustling to make calls. It still has a chance. Keep the cards, phone calls, and legislative visits going. ============================ 2) Event news from C3 - Details on these events available at www.c3mn.net ***C3 Spring Will Steger Presentations "Eyewitness to Global Warming" *** Monday April 17, 7pm at Temple Israel (and four other upcoming metro congregations during April) FFI: www.c3mn.net ***Earth Day interactive webcast with major faith leaders*** Friday April 21st Noon to 2pm CST, with Interfaith Power and Light. The first part of the webcast will be a talk with climate scientists and the second part will be a talk with faith leaders (including Richard Cizik and Daniel Swartz) Communities of Faith can view the discussion live on Friday, April 21, or download it at a later date for educational purposes. http://www.earthday.net/news/LiveChat.aspx This will be a very good opportunity to hear from some of the best climate scientists and influential faith leaders in the nation. ***Living Green Expo*** May 6 & 7, 10am- 5pm State Fair Grounds At the Expo, don't miss "Greening Your Congregation" Workshop - 3pm, Sun May 7, 2006 ***Dr. Matthew Fox, Creation Spirituality*** Sunday April 30, 9:30am Hennepin Ave UMC ============================ 3) Renewable Energy: Here. Plenty of time for community Q&A. Organizing support from MN-PIRG and others. FFI: Madalyn Cioci, 612-926-5249, joemadalyn "at" earthlink.net ========================= 4) WCCO, Channel 4, 10pm news, 5-part series on energy: Tonight will be the third in the 5 part series. First night was on peak oil, Tuesday night was largely about our country's over-consumption of fossil fuels compared to anyone else on earth. It is a great series! >From ME3: As a supporter of clean and renewable energy, you're no doubt aware of the recent national attention focused on energy issues like global warming. You'll be pleased to know that local media are following suit-WCCO 4 News is airing a groundbreaking broadcast series starting today, Monday, April 10 at 10:00 p.m. WCCO anchor Don Shelby will explore how America's limitless thirst for energy threatens our national security, our environment, and our children's future in a five-part series called Project Energy. Shelby and his colleagues tackle the problems and the consequences of the country's current energy crisis-and also present solutions. ME3 Science Policy Director J. Drake Hamilton and I will be featured in the programs on Thursday and Friday. We have been working with the WCCO news team on this project for months and hope you will tune in. By working with media professionals like Shelby and others, we take ME3's message of clean, efficient, and renewable energy for the 21st century to the broadest possible audience. Your past support makes this critical work possible, and I would once again like to ask for your help. First, please forward this message to family and friends. It is important that we get the word out as far as possible about this innovative series. Second, please call WCCO's viewer line at 1-800-444-9226 and thank them for focusing on important issues like energy independence and alternative energy sources. In order for them to continue covering such vital issues, WCCO needs to hear that you're watching and that their coverage is timely and important. ====================== More to come (soon, I hope), Madalyn Cioci and the UU EcoMinds leadership team.
