Hope you can join us! While we know it's still the height of summer, it's time to start thinking about September and the start of the "church year." MUUSJA EcoMinds meeting Thursday, August 6th, 2009 6:30 - 9 pm First Universalist Church 3400 Dupont Ave S, Minneapolis Pot-luck plus pizza! Please bring a light snack item/cookies/etc. We'll count heads and order pizza from Galactic Pizza (all natural, delivered by electric scooter!) to share. Agenda items include: . H.I.R.E. Minnesota & Green Jobs working group . 350.org Day - UU Ministry for Earth has put together a very thorough page for this event: http://www.uuministryforearth.org/350.htm . American Clean Energy Act (Waxman-Markey) - Senate action coming soon . Begin drafting the 2009-2010 EcoMinds proposal for MUUSJA . Quick fund-raising update Please bring your calendars so we can confirm a regular monthly meeting time for the 2009-2010 program year. FYI, at a recent Green Jobs/Renewable energy working group meeting of HIRE, the group agreed on some helpful criteria for what constitutes a green job. The H.I.R.E. Minnesota Coalition leverages jobs for low income people and communities of color in the renewable energy and energy efficiency fields. Six criteria for green jobs are: 1. Jobs are long term - not part time, not seasonal 2. Jobs are family sustaining - wages and benefits on a normal 40 hour work week support a family 3. Jobs employ processes and/or make products that are de-carbonizing 4. Jobs are accessible and intentionally inclusionary 5. Jobs produce a multiplier effect - they contribute to a larger green economy (they are not "one off gigs") 6. Jobs that value the whole persons - what people bring to the workplace besides their labor, or, the expression of community in the work-place. - Ralph
