Hi All, For those of you who signed up (or did not) and want to participate in Peace Across North Minnneapolis, here is the scoop regarding Friday night.
The timetable: (Note, there will be only cookies and water at the event, so plan to eat ahead of time or bring your own food.)
6:30pm: those who plan to carpool from FUS should arrive there and figure out who is driving whom. When coming North, 26th Street will be closed, so you may want to come West on Broadway until you get to either James (if you want to park closer to the later, gathering event) or Logan (if you want to park closer to the starting event) and try to park somewhere in the 2500 blocks of those streets. Emerson and Fremont will be open, so if you prefer to park North of 26th, you can get through there. Last year we parked in the school parking lot of the Jordan Park School at 29th and Irving, which is really only two long blocks away from 26th. Please note where you left your car so you can find it again ;-)
7pm: Arrive and sign in on our block. We will be at 26th and Morgan, which I think means that we will be lining up between Morgan and Newton, but I am getting clarification on that. We are invited to pick up trash and door knock a block N and S of 26th along Morgan to invite people out to the event between then and 7:30. 26th street will be blocked, so chalk drawing, frisbee, man on stilts, drill teams, etc will also be possible. If you have any fun ideas, bring them along.
7:30pm: We will line up along our blocks and will make a chain for peace (you will have received your link when you signed in) which will later be used for an art project. During this event, we will chant "Hold hands and unite For peace across the Northside." As the chain is built in each block, we will join with the next block and move towards the band shell (somewhere between Girard and James) and there will be cookies, water and a program of only 10 minutes of speeches, then drill teams, spoken word and music. You may stay as short or as long as you like at that point. We anticipate starting the band shell program at 8:00pm.
Just so you know, some N Mpls youth are doing a photography project and may ask to interview you about who you are and why you are there. They are just starting this week, so I don't know how much saturation they will have.
If you have questions, you can email me or call me at 612-205-9832 (cell).
