"Signing statement" on torture

President Bush recently signed the Military Commissions Act legitimizing
the use of torture by U.S. government agents and greatly expanding the
president's power to authorize its use. UUSC's Shelley Moskowitz
participated in a public demonstration in front of the White House
protesting this act.
Read more on our blog and send the president your own signing statement.

Living Wage Days

This election season is the time to inspire, educate, and mobilize
support for raising the minimum wage at the federal and state level. One
way to do that is by joining UUSC for Living Wage Days October 21-22 and
28-29.
Bring Living Wage Days to your community.

Guatemalan government apologizes to Harbury

The Guatemalan government apologized to Jennifer Harbury for its role in
the 1990s torture and murder of her husband, a Mayan resistance leader.
Harbury, who has relentlessly pursued justice for her husband for over a
decade, is the former director of UUSC's STOP (Stop Torture Permanently)
Campaign.

Founders honored in Washington, D.C.

The celebration of UUSC founders Rev. Waitstill and Martha Sharp
culminated in a special event at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in
September commemorating their work saving Jews during World War II.
