I think that is a great compromise - - and more accurate.

OK, here's the semantics & meaning question - if we say SAC will ENDORSE
the art sale event, rather than co-sponsor it, is that better since SAC
will not be collecting the money or making sure it goes to a 501c3,
etc....? Since this is a show-and-sale event being organized by an
individual member of FUS, who will take the money and personally deliver
it to other individuals (artists)? I'm thinking that SAC acts under the
501c3 of FUS, so we want to protect that 501c3 status. If SAC takes
responsibility for an event, we need to do what we usually do re: finding
another 501c3 non-profit organization to send the funds to (like Hamline,
for Anders Bjornberg's micro-lending work in Bangladesh, etc...).

I plan to vote yes on this, I think it's a great thing to do, just want
to know if folks agree that endorsing is a more accurate and safer word
to use.

One of our long time members, Nancy Miller, goes to Oaxaca every
winter. You probably are aware that there was a great deal of
political turmoil there during the past year. It was a very
dangerous place to live and visit. Oaxaca's econmy is largely
dependant on tourism, so as a result of the political turmoil, the
economy was negatively affected - big time.

Nancy is acquainted with some of the local artistans and has brought
back some items for sale here. She would like to do this on June 23
and 24th. Will Hegeman will put it on the website and it can be
publicized in the Order of Service on Sunday.

The permission she is asking for is to be able to say that the
Social Action Committee is co-sponsoring this. She feels it will
add more crediability and get more attention for the event. All of
the money will go directly to the artisans who created the piece.

Those of you who know Nancy know what a good artist she is herself
and can confirm that her taste in selecting work for resale will be
of high quality.

Feedback please. Thank you.
