The Summer Assemblies committee is sponsoring a special screening of
a documentary by Independent Voices on Sunday, July 29 after the
Summer Assemblies Service. (12:00 in the Dietrich room).
Here'as some info about the group:
We are a team of people of color, women, youth, and social justice activist journalists who produce an award-winning, non-profit, grass-roots TV news show called Independent Voices. We have worked on stories related to environmental justice, destruction in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, women rights, immigrant rights, peace movement, anti-racsim campaigns, and general themes on media and democracy. Our show is broadcast on public access channels in 70 cities across the country. You could also view our current episode or learn more about our show on our blog - http://<http://indyvoices.blogspot.com/>IndyVoices.blogspot.com.
We are very luckly to have worked with members of Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh (North Carolina) and with many other organizations to highlight human-rights abuses and worked on projects to empower marginalized communities. We also hold a monthly film screening at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh that enables us to interact with community members about the issues highlighted in our show. We believe that such screenings are vital to encourgae civic participation from the audience of our show.
One of our co-producers would be visiting Minneapolis/St.Paul area from July 27th to July 29th as part of a national media conference.
Independent Voices will spread the word to media and social justice communities in Minneapolis/St Paul area. They do not charge any fees, but may seek donations at the end of our show if it is permitted.
we'll probably need some help with refreshments, and we need to know if you are okay with having them ask for donations.
