Carole,
Thank you for your comments. It is always difficult juggling the needs
of the Society against individual members’ needs and desires. Caiden
Riley, the new Building Manager has recommended a policy adjustment
which the Board approved on Nov 28, 2007.

"For those groups that have member(s) who also are members of FUS we
will offer two free rentals during any 12-month period. For ongoing
space use, these groups will be offered usage agreements based on the
rental rates approved in April, 2006. Rates may be adjusted according to
circumstances."

The costs of set-up and staff time are figured into the costs related to
room usage for groups. The rental of our space has been increasingly
attractive to outside groups and thus the demand is increasing. We
cannot ignore the value of additional revenue when our operating budget
is stretched so thin. I encourage you to talk with Caiden Riley, our
new Building Manager with any questions or for room alternatives.

Subject: Re: [sa-talk] FUS rental policy

Just want you to know that the MN Futurists is a group that my husband,
Rog, is involved with. They had met at the Kenwood until the person who

lived there died and so Rog set it up at FUS. Other FUS members are
involved too, I believe. They have programs related to the Iraq War,
universal health care, global warming, energy, etc.... all good UU
values too. In the absence of an active adult ed program at FUS, Rog
feels that the Futurists are helping to fill that need.

As someone who first discovered that Unitarian Churches existed because
I attended a program in one ... a program that was not sponsored by that

church but by an outside group, I have always felt that it is foolish to

chase away any group that brings thoughtful people into our setting. I
think back to the days when WILPF always had their annual craft sale at

FUS ... and then moved to St. Stevens, I believe, because we began to
charge them for the space. Remember also when WAMM and Polly Mann held
forth in our Dietrich Room... years ago, of course?
