It sounds like a great idea to me! Barbara Weatherhead barbweather [at] comcast.net -----Original Message----- From: Rev. Arise, all women who have hearts! Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn All that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy and patience. Julia Ward Howe, 1870 Dear Prairie Star UU Ministers, As you know, the very first Mothers Day was created by a Unitarian woman to give mothers a voice against war. By 1870 Julia Ward Howe had lived through the Civil War and when she saw the approach of yet another armed conflict, she organized an event to give mothers and women a voice to speak out - this was the first Mothers Day. Julia's Voice, a peace and anti war group affiliated with Shawnee Mission Unitarian Universalist Church, is the modern voice for Julia Ward Howe. On May 11, Mothers Day 2008, Julia's Voice will begin its mission to return Mothers Day to its original intent. Our Mothers Day event, Moms Against the War, will honor Howe's work by promoting peace and speaking out against the War in Iraq. While the main event will be held in Johnson County Kansas, Julia's Voice will provide organizing tools for churches across the nation to sponsor similar Moms Against the War events in their own communities. Julia's Voice recently received funding from the Unitarian Universalist Funding Program to organize and promote our Moms Against the War event. This is a strong endorsement by the denomination for our vision. Moms Against the War will make our faith a strong voice for peace in the Prairie Star District and beyond. We need your help to make this event a success. Here's how: * Sign on as a sponsor for our event. Join our effort to plan and organize this event. Sponsors will agree with our mission, will provide us with volunteer or financial help and will allow their name to appear on our website as a sponsor. * Come and stand with us! Make this an event to take notice of!!! Send a few car loads of congregants to attend our march on Mothers Day, May 11 at 3:00. Join our Peace Choir! Help us ensure this event will be successful and will proudly represent our faith, our churches and our commitment to peace. Mothers and ALL others are welcome! Let us know if you will need home hospitality in the KC metro area. * Can't make it to Kansas? Organize an event in your community. Log onto our new website after January 30 and click "Tool Kit" to find all that you need to organize a Moms Against the War march in your local community. * Open doors -- Do you personally know a prominent mother sympathetic to the cause of peace who could promote our event by serving as a media focus?
