I share Adele's concerns about access to Myanmar and respect for the American Refugee Committee (Lead story in today's Strib:http://www.startribune.com/local/18751504.html) Barbara Weatherhead barbweather [at] comcast.net -----Original Message----- From: hanse002 [at] umn.edu [mailto:hanse002 [at] umn.edu] Sent: Thursday, May 08, 2008 1:03 PM To: Barb Weatherhead Subject: Re: [sa-talk] Fw: [Allies-L] UU Service Committee and UUA Partnerto Launch Myanmar Cyclone Relief Fund This might sound negative, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong... Let's think about where best to donate. I don't know a lot about the UUSC...other than the very general descriptions I read. How are they organized? How do they "quickly" move into an emergency situation? On the other hand, I know a lot about the American Refugee Committee (located in the TC) which has a very clear organization and at least one primary focus on medical care. When I give money to ARC, I know how my money will be spent. Also, right now, it seems like the Myanmar government is not allowing many orgs in ..As we get closer to the date for a special collection, things might be clearer. May 11th in music Sunday, and I don't think we could get a special collection that day. May 18th is the collection the youth want. May 25th is Memorial Dav weekend, which might mean lower attendance. We could ask for the special collection for the first Sunday in June (the last day of our "regular" calendar year.) Do we "ask" Kendyl?
