In talking with Caidin about this, the rental policy is that there is a rental fee schedule and all people pay it unless it is co-sponsored by a committee from FUS. FUS member get a break on the rate, but in this case it is an outside group that is asking. Caidin also said that he is anticipating that we will get many requests for co-sponsorships and he has already experienced this. He didn't advise them to come to SAC, so that idea may have come from someone else.

I also vote NO now that I know more about it.

I've thought it over, and I think we should NOT co-sponsor the event. IF we
agree everybody will start trying to find ways to get something
co-sponsored. Sorry I don't have a copy of the rental policy because I
think we probably should refer to it before we vote, and it isn't on the
web site.

The Friendship Force idea is a good one, and we could certainly look into
working with them. One reason the rental policy was implemented was that we
need to pay our custodial staff when there are special events. The building
fees aren't that onerous, and much cheaper than a hotel or other facility.
(Even the parks and recs are charging fees now for room use.)

If one of our members who is affiliated with Friendship Force wants to step
in as a one-time per year building sponsor, then he/she could do that.

This is the group that is asking Social Action to co-sponser a one-time
meeting of their group at FUS . After the first request they cancelled.
Now they have renewed the request. The original plans were to hold it on
8/30 and that Keith Ellison would be on a panel talking about Turkey, the
role of women and the need for cross-cultural learning. They were
planning a potluck. The size of the group would be about 40. If social
action co-sponsers the event it would mean that they would pay no room
rental.

Since then, the date has changed to 8/20 and Keith Wllison will not be
involved. The potluck is also in doubt. It may change to a cooked meal.
They need equipment for a power point. This would mean using our
equipment and it would mean a staff person would have to be there to take
care of the equipment and to supervise the use of the kitchen (extra
hours and extra expense to FUS)

It seems as though the plans are in flux, making it hard to know what the
expectations of the bldg and staff would be eventually, Ordinarily, there
is a charge for the room, for the equipment, staff and kitchen. There is
a fee structure in place which would meet all their needs.

ARE WE INVESTED ENOUGH IN THE TOPIC/GROUP TO CO-SPONSER THIS EVENT,
HAVING THIS NEW INFORMATION?
