I think that we should have a conversation in SAC meetings about what it means 
to "sponsor"  or "co-sponsor" an event. 
I think "sponsorship" means that a number of SAC members are heavily involved 
in the event, are attending the event and helping with it. If we sponsor 
something, we should be there, in force, to do the work. Also, if it is an 
outside group, it should be voted on at an SAC meeting -- that needs a lot of 
lead time. 
Personally, I think that this should happen very infrequently for causes that 
we are already working on or connected with, that it makes good sense to 
co-sponsor. If we are not already connected with the group that wants to use 
our space, we need to look carefully at whether it is something that we should 
sponsor.
My bottom line - SAC should be heavily involved in anything that we co-sponsor.
