I am with Carole on this -- but agree that it needs some careful restating.

Let's face it -- UUism is fairly unique on the US scene, and humanistic UUism even more so. Our community here shares many values precisely because of this: How preserve the best in human history by helping us outgrow sexism, racism, homophobia, violence, inequality of opportunity, superstition, untestable and unverifiable supernaturalism. AND basing values and human flourishing on reason, science, education, and consequences rather than some unswerving <faith>.

This building should be a recruiting device for others living here who may share some of these values but feel the need for more effective community to support and deepen their values.

Letting such groups and individuals into the building may be the least expensive and most effective advertising tool that we could find. Lots of free pamphlets, seeing what is (and isn't) on the walls, browsing hymnals, becoming aware of other groups and causes that we support -- there are lots of <Caroles> out there to be recruited!

As for costs, subsidizing some groups to come HERE might be a much more effective use our funds than simply mailing them checks!
