Subject: RE: Meeting on Thurs., Jan. 14, 2:00 at your offices

Chuck,

I sincerely apologize, but something is come up and I have to cancel most of my
meetings for this week. You and I have been going back and forth for some time
now, and I want to make sure that your issue is heard. I think that maybe the
best way to move forward right now would be if you and your group could put
together some written documents on the issue that you could get to me so that I
can make sure it gets to the right people. What I’m thinking this information
should include is background information on the torture issue and what you are
asking our office to do. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience.

Dear Mr. Viswanathan:

You asked me to inform you about the numbers coming to our meeting this
Thursday to discuss torture and torture accountability issues. It looks like
we'll have about 10-12, so I don't think it's necessary for you to find an
alternate location. You said your conference room seats eight people
comfortably. If necessary, I'm sure some of us would be willing to stand.

Looking forward to meeting you this Thursday.

Yours,

Chuck Turchick
