WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31 AT 7:30
LIFE AND DEBT
First Universalist Church
3400 Dupont, Minneapolis

You are invited to see the video LIFE AND DEBT, a film by
Stephanie Black. We will be joined by Katy Harrod, outreach coordinator from Peace Coffee to continue the discussion investigating critical issues of so-called "free trade" and alternative fair trade possibilities.

"Life and Debt" is a documentary that should be mandatory viewing for
anyone interested in globalization that, war or no war, remains one of the most contentious issues of our times. It's a detailed, poignant examination of Jamaica's perilous economic plight in the wake of three decades of IMF loans, which assuredly stands as a microcosm of the flow of international capital, as well as an illustration of difficulties that exist all the way across the third world."

"Life and Debt is a very powerful testament about of the global movement for a more equitable economic order."

Come and participate to learn more about this complex, fascinating,
troubling and critically important topic.

Peace in Iraq through Change at Home: What America Must Do in the Wake of Its Invasion of Iraq
by ERIK GUSTAFSON
EPIC Founder / Director and WISCONSIN GULF WAR Veteran
*National Speaking Tour*
Education for Peace in Iraq Center (EPIC)
An EPIC Presentation and Action Plan
April 9th marks one year since the fall of Baghdad. Saddam Hussein is behind bars and his sons are dead. Crippling international sanctions have been removed.

Yet today, Iraq remains under foreign military rule, and political violence and terror have taken hold. Already this year, insurgents and foreign fighters have killed over 700 Iraqi civilians, police officers, Shiite pilgrims, international aid workers and Coalition soldiers.

One year later, the Pentagon has failed to restore most of Iraq?s public services. Iraqis still suffer from high mortality rates and outbreaks of water-borne disease. Women and children stay in doors for fear of being kidnapped.
And despite UN recommendations to the contrary, the Pentagon and its appointed Iraqi Governing Council (IGC) have codified President Bush?s election-year plan to transfer power to a newly ?selected? government by June 30th.
Can democracy work under these circumstances?
Come explore what Minnesotans can do to support democracy in Iraq while strengthening our democracy here at home. And find out how students and community leaders can help bring peace to Iraq.
A Wisconsin Gulf War veteran, Erik Gustafson is founder and director of the Education for Peace in Iraq Center, one of the most credible and respected peace advocacy and lobbying groups on Capitol Hill. Motivated by his first-hand encounter with the suffering of ordinary Iraqis due to war, sanctions and tyranny, he has emerged as a leader of the Iraq solidarity movement. A leading authority on Iraq and U.S. Policy, he has testified in Congressional briefings, organized policy forums and delivered lectures throughout North America. He has been interviewed by the New York Times, FOX News NBC Nightly News, CNN, BBC and many other media outlets.
