So far we have reps from First Universalist, First Unitarian, UU Church of Minnetonka, and MN Valley. If you represent another metro UU congregation or fellowship, we’d like to have your help in drafting a Campaign to pass a renewable energy standard and promote energy conservation for discussion at our next Metro EcoMinds meeting on Sept 29. UUs for a Just Economic Community (UUJEC)is a close partner of MUUSJA’s and a faith-based sponsor of the new Wal-Mart movie: The High Cost of Low Price from director Robert Greenwald ("Outfoxed" and "Uncovered”). PAT ROBERTSON Rev. Sinkford issued the following statement: "I join with National Council of Churches in Christ General Secretary, the Rev. Bob Edgar, in rejecting the Rev. Pat Robertson's suggestion that the U.S. should execute President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela. As a religious leader, as a person of faith, and as an American I must reject any kind of religious fundamentalism that condones violence, whether it comes from terrorists abroad or prominent Christian leaders here at home. I hope my colleagues in faith and in this country will do the same." **** SEPTEMBER 24-26: RALLY TO END THE WAR IN IRAQ WASHINGTON, D.C. Includes a mass rally on the National Mall starting at 11:00 AM on Saturday. WASHINGTON, D.C. Events begin Saturday with workshops and lobby trainings at a church in downtown Washington. On Sunday, All Soul's Church Unitarian will host an Interfaith Service that includes torture survivors. The main event is a mock trial on Sunday afternoon, during which prominent actors portraying US government officials (including Martin Sheen as Donald Rumsfeld!) will be prosecuted by real lawyers using real evidence from torture survivors and reputable news sources. Monday will be a rally on Capitol Hill and lobbying for an end to US support for torture.
