1971 FILM "WINTER SOLDIER." Vietnam veterans testify to
atrocities committed in the war.
Listen to the former Army interrogator as he describes using "clubs, rifle
butts, pistols, knives" in Vietnam to extract information - "always monitored
by superiors or military police," he says - and recounts his superiors'
overriding directive: "Don't get caught." Eerily prescient of national
embarrassments like the torture at Abu Ghraib. "The whole society needs to
hear about
that part of us, because that's part of us, too. The whole society includes
those people who are having to kill and be killed, and maim and be maimed."
